Unfortunately, things don't stay quiet for long. June's Aunt Helena, whom she has never met or even heard about before this day, shows up. Aunt Helena is the Dean at the Hidden Hall, the university that spiritualist go to for training. And now June must go, for her mandatory training. Of course, nothing goes right and everything starts to go wrong almost as soon as June steps foot onto the campus.

It isn't long before June is embroiled in the middle of a battle between Good-Siders and Dark-Siders. June's not sure exactly what is going on, but when June's mentor, Eloise is accused of harming a student and then goes missing, June will stop at nothing to find her and save the student.

People who bought this also bought...

Even if that means being expelled from Hidden Hall and not being able to eventually have a place on the town council. The point of view of this book is told exclusively from June. There were parts of this, especially at Hidden Hall, that reminded me strongly of Hogwarts, but at college level. June is growing in her psychic gifts, but most of her magic seems to be of the "winging it" variety. And we see very little ritual or training going on. We do get to spend some time with all the very unique characters from Whispering Falls that we came to love in the first book.

Though I do sometimes have a bit of a problem keeping them and their shops straight. This was a great follow up to the first and really works on expanding the world and letting the June's character grow. Still a solid 3 stars on Goodreads. Sep 12, Sequoya Cox rated it really liked it. The author has amazing creativity. I highly enjoyed the 1st 2 but the 3rd ruined it for me and so did the synopsis for 4 and 5! I feel that the story could have been developed much better.

My first issue is the fact that the main character is thrown into an unknown world where hardly anything is explained. They just tell her what she needs to do and she does.

Everytime dhe tries to get more info she is stonewalled Then they have the audacity to make her village president so early on in the series She obviously has none of the knowledge she needs. It made no sense to make a woman who is new to this and new to the towm the village president.

There's the first clue that June's time at Hidden Hall is going to be a bumpy ride. On the first day of potions class, June refuses to drink the potion made by Professor Sandalwood June's mother's friend Eloise because she knows it will taste nasty. Another student quickly volunteers and falls ill.

Eloise is put on leave and the student is in the hospital and deathly ill. June's determined to help Eloise and the best way is to try to cure the student. It turns out there are two sides of the spiritualist realm They co-exist fairly well, but one Dark-Sider isn't happy with the status quo. It's soon apparent that there's a "disturbance in the force" of the Spirtualist world. There are similarities to Hogwarts, but at a "higher education" level and with the personalities of June's friends tossed in.

I'm definitely going to continue reading the series I like these people and want to know what happens next! Jan 20, Michelle rated it it was ok Shelves: , reviewed , kindle. My interest in this series is quickly dwindling. Book 1 was cute, and I was intrigued by the colorful characters in Whispering Falls, Kentucky. But I don't know if I can continue. The dialogue is terrible. It reads like a high school creative writing project at times.

The purple prose pops up at the most awkward times and completely pulls me out of the story.

June is insecure--a character trait I absolutely hate. She eats ding dongs non-stop, which is strange, but more importantly, she just isn't very smart.

If she would stop and think before acting she would avoid most of her troubles. She is ridiculously naive about her relationship with her best friend, Oscar. I can handle the, "will they or won't they" nonsense. Hey, they are both 25 years old. No need to rush into anything. But her inner dialogue makes me cringe, and I just don't like her. I will give book 3 a final shot before throwing in the towel, but it isn't looking good for me continuing the series.

Sorry, June, you may have to continue on without me. Apr 15, Talor Pickering rated it it was amazing. I enjoyed the book This is book two of Magical Cures Mystery series. I enjoyed the book from beginning to end. The characters are funny, magical and entertaining. The details and descriptions bring the town and the school to life specially all the magical characters. I like the level of suspense and mystery to the story it really keeps you captivated. There were parts that had me laughing especially the conversations between June and Madame Torres. With all the characters from the town and the way the book ends with Oscar it leaves it just right to keep going with more exciting and mysterious adventures with June.

It was a light and easy read, although it did have some misprints and a few editing issues but overall a good book I'll be looking forward to the next book. Apr 19, Dharia Scarab rated it really liked it Shelves: the-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly-revie , kindle.

The first two books in the series were cute, as was the Christmas story 6. But I won't be reading any more of the series. The blurbs on the other books note that in books June will be suspect number one in every crime, which is my number one pet peeve in mystery book series. Nov 04, Kd rated it it was amazing. I loved the first book! This series isn't like any other. It's different, it's sweet, it's charming as all get out. It's a quick read and so fun! So far in the book there is a mystery going on and June is trying to fix it.

June tried to not leave fingerprints but what about anything else you touch. I was beginning to think about why can't magic be used to find Eloise but before I knew it the story was telling me. The characters and personalities of everyone in the community is fabulous. I love the new addition. And I loved the ending quote.

It was different Books about witches and fantasies are not my favorite type of book so when I say it was a hard read, it was that for me. I felt the ending dragged a bit. I believe Ms. Kappes has great writing potential and that she could draw her stories out better with a few more details. This second story is more of what I like to read. With very good characterization and descriptions of both the characters, and the settings that the story takes place in.

You feel you are part of the story while reading it. I felt that this story was a little slow getting started and seemed a bit silly. It was funny, but kind of silly at the same time. But the story rapidly progressed to nonstop action. There was so much going on, but it was easy to follow. The characters were very believable. That made it difficult to decide who to believe.

I kept wondering how accurate she was. This was a very interesting story that I would recommend to anyone that enjoys a good mystery with the paranormal involved.
